Exodus 3:13-14* *The verses:* > 13 Moses said to God, Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them, The God of your fathers has sent me to you, and they ask me, What is his name? Then what shall I tell them? > 14 God said to Moses, I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: I AM has sent me to you. *In short words:* 1. *Gods name is I AM* He doesnt depend on anyone. He just _is_. Eternal, self-existing. 2. *He is present with His people* Not a god far away. I AM is with you right now. 3. *This name shows authority* When God speaks, it happens, because He IS. _Big idea:_ Gods name tells us He is real, present, and eternal. *2. John 8:24-25* *Title: "Unless You Believe I AM"* *The verses:* > 24 I told you that you would die in your sins; for unless you believe that I AM, you will indeed die in your sins. > 25 Who are you? they asked. Just what I have been telling you from the beginning, Jesus replied.[he] *In short words:* 1. *Jesus uses I AM* Same words God used in Exodus. 2. *Believing who Jesus IS matters* If we dont believe He is the I AM , we stay in sin. 3. *Jesus has been saying it all along* He didnt come to hide who He is. _Big idea:_ Jesus is saying: I am the eternal One. Believe in Me. *3. John 8:56-59* *Title: "Before Abraham Was, I AM"* *The verses:* > 56 Your father Abraham rejoiced at the thought of seeing my day; he saw it and was glad. > 57 You are not yet fifty years old, they said to him, and you have seen Abraham! > 58 Very truly I tell you, Jesus answered, before Abraham was born, I AM! > 59 At this, they picked up stones to stone him... *In short words:* 1. *Jesus existed before Abraham* Not just 30 years old. Hes eternal. 2. *He says I AM again* Not I was. Present tense. Like God in Exodus 3. 3. *Thats why they wanted to stone Him* They understood: He was claiming to be God. _Big idea:_ Jesus took Gods own name, I AM, for Himself. *Putting them all together:* *Exodus 3:14* God reveals His name: *I AM* *John 8:24* Jesus says: *Believe that I AM* *John 8:58* Jesus says: *I AM* before Abraham, forever The Jewish leaders heard it clearly. Thats why they picked up stones. Jesus was saying He is the same God who spoke to Moses.
